The lamp is the only component of the lamp housing unit that will go bad. It is similar in this way to a light bulb in your home that will break or burn out over time and need to be replaced. Much as it is more cost effective to buy a new light bulb instead of an new table lamp, it is less expensive to replace your TV lamp instead of purchasing the entire housing unit. Simply replace the lamp, reuse your housing and acheive the same great picture as when your TV was brand new.
Replacing the lamp in the housing is easy, saves money and is enviromentally friendly.
There is no need to replace the entire plastic unit - you can re-use it with a new lamp and acheive the same result as replacing the entire unit.

Yes, don't drop it! :)
Also, do not touch the glass surface of the new lamp. Touching the glass will deposit skin oils onto the lamp surface. When the lamp heats to its operating temperature the oil will cause a temperature difference on the lamp surface that will distort the picture and likely cause the lamp to break. Use the enclosed plastic glove or other protection when handling the lamp.
Be sure not to overtighten any of the screws when replacing the lamp. Finger-tight is sufficient.

Prevent damaging voltage spikes by plugging your TV into a quality surge protector.
After turning off your TV let it cool down for at least 30 minutes before turning it on again. This allows the lamp to cool down to room temperature before turning it back on, which applies a large voltage to light the lamp.
Extend the life of your lamp by keeping it cool and ensure proper ventilation surrounding your TV.

The housing is the plastic cage or cartridge that surrounds the lamp and holds it in place in your TV. When replacing your lamp you will first remove the housing unit from your TV then remove the lamp from the housing and replace it with the new lamp. The housing may slide out of the front or rear of your TV depending on the make and model. See your owner's manual for directions on removing the lamp housing unit.
